Tide Friend — Privacy Policy · Last Updated: June 29, 2026

Mintzi (“we,” “us,” or “our”) built Tide Friend, a mobile application that shows tide predictions for stations you choose. Tide Friend is free to download and offers an optional paid subscription (Tide Friend Pro). This Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles. The short version: Tide Friend has no user accounts, doesn’t track you, doesn’t show ads, and doesn’t collect personal information.

What we don’t do

No accounts. There is no sign-up, sign-in, or profile.
No tracking. We don’t use third-party analytics, advertising, or attribution SDKs. The app’s Apple Privacy Manifest declares no tracking.
No location access. The app never asks for your GPS location. You pick tide stations by name or by tapping the map yourself.
No notifications. The app does not send push notifications.
No personal data for purchases. The optional subscription is billed by Apple. We never receive your name, email, or payment-card details (see “What leaves your device” below).

What stays on your device

Everything below is stored locally on your iPhone in the app’s sandbox (in the App Group group.com.mintzi.tidefriend so the widget can read what the app writes). None of it is transmitted to us:

The tide station you’ve made active and any stations you’ve starred.
Your unit preferences (feet/metres, °F/°C) and language override.
Your optional reference-line value (a height you’ve asked the app to draw on the chart).
Your subscription status (whether Tide Friend Pro is active), so the app and widget can unlock paid features.
Cached tide predictions and station directories so the app works offline and uses fewer API calls.

You can clear all of this at any time by deleting the app.

What leaves your device

The app makes anonymous, unauthenticated HTTPS requests to public tide and weather services to fetch the data it displays. These requests do not contain your name, email, device identifier, or precise location — only the identifier of the tide station you’ve chosen or searched for. The services themselves may, like any web server, log standard request metadata (IP address, timestamp, user agent) under their own privacy policies:

When you start a free trial or subscribe, the purchase itself is handled by Apple’s App Store. We use RevenueCat to verify and manage your subscription status; the app sends RevenueCat an app-generated anonymous identifier and your App Store purchase receipt — never your name, email, or payment-card details. RevenueCat acts as our service provider under its own privacy policy (linked above).

We do not share data with any other third parties.

Apple Privacy Manifest

The app and widget ship with an Apple Privacy Manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) that declares no tracking and no tracking domains. The only data type associated with the app is Purchases — the subscription and receipt information described above, used solely to provide the subscription, not linked to your identity, and not used to track you. The Required Reason API used is UserDefaults (reason CA92.1), to read and write the app’s own preferences and App Group container.

Children’s privacy

Tide Friend is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from them. Because the app does not collect personal data from any user, it is suitable for general audiences.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how the app handles data, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and, where required, prompt you inside the app or through the App Store update notes. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
